Genuine Canon Lens…but
After having my fair share of doubt I have come to the conclusion that the lens I received is a genuine and brand new one with the exception of one point which I am going to elaborate later on. The points I would like to hilghlight are as follows1. Canon standalone lens boxes do not have separate seals. It was a point of contention for me as well, but later on I got it clarified from authorised retailers. (Body with kit lens do have seals)2. My seller was Kamal Imaging3. To know (for sure) whether you lens is a genuine one or not, please check the serial no at all 3 places namely on the box, on the warranty card and on the lens itself.4. Curiously, in my case, the lens is manufactured in Malaysia but the lens dust cap is made in Taiwan. This had led me to believe that the lens I had received was a duplicate one but afterwards I came to the conclusion that there might have been a mismatch at the seller’s end.Coming to the photography part, this lens has good coverage as compared to the 18-45 kit one (obviously). It works fine and supports the different functions as other genuine (kit) lens. I am not a pro, but this is what I have understood from my experience.

Surprizingly , this lens is better than what i expected. Light weight. I used it with my R6ii and it is perfect for travel and take space photography. Less distortion than my previous EOS 15mm wide angle lens

When I bought my Canon EOS-R50, I was ignorant about the cropped sensor details. I was thinking along the terms of my old 35mm cameras I used to have 30 or 40 years ago. So I assumed the 18-45 mm lens would be a really nice wide angle. But with the cropping, it’s not. I couldn’t even get a photo of my basement wall and the work I was doing downstairs in frame. I had to use my iPhone to zoom back out far enough to get a decent shot.This meant that my 18mm lens was the focal equivalent to about a 29mm lens on my old film 35mm camera. But this one, at 10mm, is like a 16mm lens would’ve been on my old 35mm film camera. And the difference between the kit lens that came with the camera and this one is amazing.Not only can I get the wider shots now that I want, but it’s just a better lens overall. The results of this at 18mm and the kit lens shooting at 18mm is clear to the naked eye.Definitely worth the cost for my use.
